The technology is interesting and for the most part, believable, and the characters are well rounded and likeable. The concept is a good one, and I think it definitely speaks to our society – where children grow up craving being pretty rather than anything else. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine find her friend and turn her in, or never turn Pretty at all. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the Pretty world – and it isn’t very pretty. In just a few weeks, Tally will be there.īut Tally’s new friend, Shay, isn’t sure she wants to be Pretty. Sixteen is the magic number that brings a transformation from a repellent Ugly into a stunningly attractive Pretty, and catapults you into a high tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. Tally can’t wait to turn sixteen and become Pretty. I’ll only be including the blurb from the first book. Don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers. But better late than never right? I thought I’d share my review of the series in case anyone else missed it. I love YA fiction and I’m really surprised I didn’t discover the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld sooner.
